Pare for the course, sad backstory with mysterious missing parent. I am trying to think of a Dahl story where the mother actually lives? Is there one? But, also like Dahl there is some social commentary that just slides into the story. Thus far this one has a “Danny Champion of the World” feel to it. The wonderful storytelling dad whom the world sees as unpowerful.
